Welcome to our internet site for "La Marelle". I
hope we have provided sufficient information to entice
you to contact us by e-mail, telephone or fax with the
view of spending a day or two with us here in the cote
d'or . We have tried our very best to make our guests
feel at home, as if it were their own and provide as
many comforts as possible to make it a most
memorable stay.

|
We are within easy reach of Beaune. Just 10 minutes drive on the Seurre / Dole route D973. When you arrive in the village of Corberon you will see an old Haywain next to the telephone box. You have found "La Marelle". |
|
On arrival, we will open the electric gates for you and thereafter will give you the code so you can come and go as you please. We purchased the house in early 2002. The house, built in 1828 was part of a large farm complex, which we have converted not only to provide a home for my partner, three children and myself, but to provide a well designed complex of six en suite bedroom/ bathrooms for our "Chambre d'Hotes". In our enclosed court yard there is private parking for up to 8 cars, as well covered space in the barn. |
|
We have 5 letting rooms , all with en-suite
bathrooms, a large dining room and lounge for our
guests which is completely independent to the
main private living quarters of our family. You have
a separate entrance, so there is no worry that you
will wake us if and when you return from an
evening out in Beaune. There is dining space for
up to 25 persons and provides also an area for
breakfast for our guests as well as a comfortable
lounge area where you can relax in lounge chairs
and canopy before and after your meal.
|
|
The large
purpose built Lounge/Salon is decorated with
'bric-a-brac' based on the theme of food and
wine. Needless to say, Beaune and its
surrounding villages provide no shortage of
places to indulge in descending to its many
cellars for wine tastings and personal
commentaries. After experiencing some of the
regions finest wine, or a visit to the famous
'Hospice de Beaune' , or quite simply a visit to
Beaune itself there is nothing more relaxing than
on your return to us where you can take a nice hot
shower, relax and take a good Gin and Tonic or a
"coupe de Cremant" in front of the large log fire
before you indulge into your evening meal.

We have provided each bedroom with a different
theme. The bedrooms vary from Double bedded to
Twins and we have one bedroom for a family of
three as well as two bedrooms with an
intercommunicating door. The countries of
Senegal, Kenya, and Egypt, as well as
'Mountain' and 'La Mer' provide the themes, each
with their own colour scheme to complement their
individual atmosphere. All bedrooms and
bathrooms have windows for natural light, with
views looking towards the 'Montagne de Beaune'
at the front and our private gardens and swimming
pool at the back. Each bedroom and bathroom are
centrally heated. In each room, we have tried to
provide warmth and comfort not only by providing
excellent quality beds (bought in England,I might
add!) but with well chosen colours, textured walls,
furnishings and fabrics to complement the wooden
beams and ceilings. Individual locks are fitted to
each room for added security and peace of mind
for our guests.

Our rooms are decorated with flair and simplicity using colours, some strong, some warm combined occasionally in certain rooms with sea grass flooring. It was a great idea of ours to provide a theme for each room. It was a way of utilising souvenirs from all the countries my partner and I had worked in and visited. Authentic Kenyian masks and Senegalese patchwork fabric have been used to their best. From a two metre tall hand carved giraffe in the Kenya bedroom to an old authentic Camel saddle in the Egypt bedroom. Even we were impressed with the end product. I am not sure why our guests take photos for a souvenir of their stay, or because they want to reproduce a similar theme at home. Whatever the reason, it's a complement which we appreciate. |
|
With a collection of old skis, snow shoes and
sledges, we just had to build a bedroom with the
theme of a Mountain cabin. It was always a dream
of mine to have a wood panelled bedroom for my
guests.
Breakfast, served in the lounge is as generous as
the décor. Full English breakfast is a pleasure for us
to provide of which a small supplement is payable.
For those guests wishing to relax by or in the
swimming pool, we can provide towels for their use

A gentle civilised, supremely comfortable
friendly and relaxing place to stay is our aim, and I
think as well as hope we have provided just that.
Our arms are open for you in our civilised household.
My partner speaks beautiful English, maybe because
he is British and helps me provide a warm welcome
to all our guests. He makes wonderful home made
jams and orange marmalades, and his chicken liver
pâté isn't bad either.
Having spent 35 years in England as a Hotelier and
Restaurateur, a helping hand in the kitchen is second
nature to him. We love cooking together excellent
regional specialities as well as specialities from
Northern France where I was brought up. If there was
such a cuisins as "Franglais" we can provide it!
